THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 356-342 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20mm, 6.02 g 12). Head of the nymph Larissa facing, turned slightly to the left, wearing ampyx, pendant earring, and simple necklace. Rev. ΛΑΡΙΣ / ΑΙΩΝ Horse to right, preparing to roll over. BCD 1155 var. BCD II 315 ff. var. SNG Copenhagen 120. Fresh and bright. Extremely fine.

From a northern European collection.

This coin is a typical example of the late, mainstream issues of Larissa. It should be noted that the dates given for the coinage of Larissa in BCD II are extremely cautious, with the result that a considerable variety of coinage is put within the same restricted time period. I think this is, in fact, too cautious and have continued to use the dates of BCD I.
