EPEIROS, Ambrakia. Circa 404-360 BC. AR Stater (19mm, 8.18 g, 3h). Pegasos flying left, A on hind quarter / Helmeted head of Athena right; A to left; to right, warrior, nude but for pileos, [holding shield and sword], standing right. Ravel, Colts 117 (A53/P79); Pegasi 75 (same dies); SNG Copenhagen –; McClean 5104 (same dies). Good VF, toned, some die wear on obverse.

Ex Herbert Cahn Collection.

The A on the hind quarter of Pegasos is apparently at such a high level of the relief that it is usually worn off or not struck up well enough to see it on other examples--no reference makes note of its presence.
