SICILY, Syracuse. Gelon I. 485-478 BC. AR Tetradrachm (25mm, 17.14 g, 7h). Struck circa 480-478 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in left, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with open wreath held in both hands / Head of Arethusa right, hair in pearl band, wearing pearl necklace; ΣVRA-K-OΣ-I-O-N and four dolphins around. Boehringer 81 (V38/R53); SNG ANS 20 (same dies); BMC 18 (same dies); Hunterian 6 (same dies). VF, attractively toned, minor flan flaw in field on reverse. Well centered.
