ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Eadgar. 959-975. AR Penny (20mm, 1.53 g, 3h). Reform Small Cross (RSC) type. Northwic (Norwich) mint mint; Branting, moneyer. Struck circa 973-975. + EΛDGΛR REX ΛNGL(ORX), crowned bust left / + BRANTINC M–O NORз, short cross pattée. SCBI –; North 752; SCBC 1141; EMC 2009.0129 = Coin Register 2010, 214 (this coin). Good VF, minor porosity. Unrecorded moneyer for this very rare type.

Branting is known from the Norwich coinage of Edward the Martyr and Aethelred II (cf. Jonsson, pp. 154-5), but this is the first coin of Eadgar, and therefore the earliest coin known for this moneyer.
