LUCANIA, Thourioi. Circa 400-350 BC. AR Nomos – Stater (21mm, 7.85 g, 5h). Helmeted head of Athena right, helmet decorated with Skylla holding oar and scanning / Bull butting right; I above ethnic; in exergue, fish right. HN Italy -; SNG ANS 1052 corr. (I not noted; same dies). VF, toned, overstruck on uncertain type, small graffito on reverse. Very rare.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection.

The ANS example, from the same dies as the present coin, was also overstruck, but the undertype was identified as a Corinthian type stater. Although the I above the ethnic was not noted on that coin, the lower portion of the letter is visible in the illustration. The type belongs within the group of HN Italy 1784-96.
