KINGS of MACEDON. Philip III Arrhidaios. 323-317 BC. AR Drachm (15mm, 4.26 g, 3h). Babylon mint. Struck under Archon, Dokimos, or Seleukos I, circa 323-318/7 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; M in left field. Cf. Price P184 (tetradrachm); Seleucus I Hoard 1448 (this coin, illustrated). Good VF, lightly toned, small scuff on jaw, light graffito in field on reverse. Unique–the only known drachm of this issue.

Ex 2005 Unknown Findspot (“Seleucus I”) Hoard (CH 10.265).

Although unrecorded thus far, this drachm is from a very large issue, with known denominations of tetradrachms, hemidrachms, and obols. Thus the appearance of a drachm from this issue is not surprising.
