Trajan. AD 98-117. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.54 g, 7h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 112-115. Laureate bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder / Marcus Ulpius Traianus (Trajan’s father) seated left on curule chair, holding patera and scepter. RIC II 252; RSC 140. VF, toned, decent metal.

Trajan’s forum featured a temple to the emperor’s deified father, situated behind Trajan’s monumental column. Upon Trajan’s death, his body was interred in the base of the column, and the adjacent temple was rededicated to the deceased ruler.
