Interesting Imitation

227, Lot: 2. Estimate $100.
Sold for $92. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

CELTIC, Eastern Europe. Imitating Philip II and Alexander III of Macedon. 3rd century BC. Æ 16mm (4.60 g, 6h). Diademed head of Apollo right, as on bronze units of Philip II / Bow in bow-case and club; below, trident(?), as on bronze units of Alexander III. Near VF, earthen green patina.

This interesting imitation copies the bronze coins of both Philip II and Alexander III. Unfortunately, as of yet there is no published corpus of these Celtic imitations of Macedonian bronzes.
