KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (28mm, 17.12 g, 12h). Karrhai mint. Struck circa 325-317 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; I above strut of throne, monogram below. Price 3796. VF, scratches.

As noted by Price, this issue had traditionally been placed at Tarsos, but G. Le Rider and N. Olcay's analysis of the Akcakale hoard (RN 1988) demonstrated that it actually belonged to Karrhai. Price apparently compiled his section on Karrhai prior to the publication of this article, however, and based his chronology on other hoard data, placing the issue circa 315-305 BC. However, as noted by A. Houghton and C. Lorber (SC 1, p. 27), Le Rider and Olcay's analysis placed the issue firmly before 317 BC.
