This particular coin was struck during the period after the treaty of Brétigny, in which the title of French king is dropped from the coin legend. The coinage of this period features a new obverse bust type, an evolution from the coinage of the beginning of his reign which had been a continuation of the new coinage of his grandfather, Edward I.
