SYRIA, Seleucis and Pieria. Antioch(?). Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ 21mm (8.16 g, 1h). Dated CY 330 (3/2 BC)(?). Laureate head right / Large ΛT/C•A within circular linear border within laureal wreath. RPC 4106; McAlee 197; Butcher 61. VF, dark green patina. Rare.

From the J. S. Wagner Collection.

While the attribution of this type to Antioch is not certain, it appears likely as many have been found in the region. The “C A” on the reverse has been interpreted in a number of ways, including “Caesaris Auctoritate”, “Commune Asia”, and “Caesar Augustus”.
