168, Lot: 245. Estimate $200.
Sold for $145. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ Sestertius (30mm, 26.01 g). Rome mint. Struck AD 140-144. Laureate head right / Pax standing left, holding branch and cornucopia. RIC III 616; BMCRE 1265; Cohen 589 (all COS III). VF, black surfaces, smoothed and tooled. Although the obverse legend ends COS IIII, this is most likely the result of overzealous restoration. The point of the bust was removed and and an additional I was added to the end of the legend. The reverse type is not known for COS IIII.
