165, Lot: 259. Estimate $150.
Sold for $340. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Lucilla. Augusta, AD 164-182. Æ Sestertius (29mm, 25.32 g). Rome mint. Draped bust right / Fecunditas (Lucilla) seated right on high-backed throne, nursing infant; girl and boy standing at either side. RIC III 1736 (Aurelius); Banti 11. VF, dark green patina, minor smoothing.

Lucilla bore Lucius Verus a daughter in 165, to be followed by another daughter and a son. The son and elder daughter died in infancy, suggesting this coin type was struck for a very brief period. The surviving daughter perished with her mother on Capri.
