164, Lot: 127. Estimate $75.
Sold for $90. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ Quadrans (19mm, 3.10 g). Apronius, Galus, Messala, Sisenna, moneyers. Struck 5 BC. GALVS SISENNA III VIR, garlanded altar with flat table / APRONIVS MESSALLA AAAFF, large SC. RIC I 451 (sic); BMCRE 249; BN 789. Good VF, dark green patina, on a large flan.

The editors of the revised edition of RIC I created a great deal of confusion when they blundered the descriptions of the quadrantes of 5 BC, by mis-matching legends and types.
