From the Style Collection. Ex Dr. Klaus Berthold Collection; Auctiones AG 12 (29 September 1981), lot 489.

Successor to her mother Julia Maesa as the feminine guiding hand of her son’s regime, Julia Mamaea managed to keep the Roman Empire more or less stable for more than a decade. With the tempo of military crises rising on two fronts, however, she could not conceal her son’s weakness as a general and this led to the dynasty’s collapse in AD 235.

“The portraits of Julia Mamaea can be simply stunning. She must have been quite the attractive young lady. A very nice style is seen here.” (From the consignor)
