Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Valens and Gratian standing facing beneath arch, heads turned vis-à-vis, each holding scepter and globe; [A]NT(cross). Cf. RIC IX 31 (Valens; for type); cf. RSC 10† (Valens; same). Attractive toning with iridescence, pierced, flan crack, slight roughness, a few light scratches. Near Fine. Extremely rare. This type known for Valens but previously unknown for Gratian. Furthermore, unknown with this mint mark. |
