Steatite scarab with pharaonic imagery. Lower Egypt. Late Dynastic Period. 664-332 BC. (18 mm) Scarab with central bidirectional piercing for suspension. The back is engraved and features, including legs, are defined. There is some chipping on the top of the body. On the face, a complex engraving in two registers, above and below. The top register shows a pharaonic falcon, representing Horus, an ureaus and the sign nfr. The meaning of this part of the inscription might read “the beautiful / good Pharonic Horus, Pharoah of Egypt.” Below, the name Amun-Ra in hieroglyphs. Old Collector’s notes and notations in pencil. Small chips.
