A pair of red and white terracotta oil lamps. Byzantine Period. Early Christian. 5th-7th centuries AD. (10.6 and 8.5 cm) A pair of molded oil lamps with Christian symbols and border decorations. On the red lamp, a large handle with a cross flows into a large central body with dotted borders. The nozzle has a single central hole and evidence of burn marks. The bottom foot is unmarked and simple. The white lamp has a small handle and a very large central area with v-chevron borders surrounding a central hole. A small cross rests just above a pseudo-nozzle with a second piercing. On the bottom, an Alpha, star pattern in the foot, and a tree forward on the lamp. Intact and VF, deposits present.
