GAUL, Central. Aedui. Dubnocoveros and Dubnorex. Circa 100-50 BC. AR Quinarius (13mm, 1.88 g, 11h). Female head right; DVBNOCOV before / Warrior standing left, holding boar standard; DVBNOREX to right. D&T 3212; Depeyrot, NC IV, 215; Flesche 265 (this coin); CCCBM II 483. Old cabinet tone, struck on a compact flan. Near VF. Rare.

Ex Freeman & Sear 14 (21 June 2007), lot 21.

Depeyrot records only 51 examples, most of which are in museums. Dubnocoveros means ‘giant of the world’ and Dubnorex means ‘king of the world’. The latter is probably the same person as Dumnorix, described by Caesar as the brother of Diviciacus “...who at that time held the chief magistracy of his tribe and enjoyed great popularity” (BG 1.3).

Closing Date and Time: 20 July 2022 at 10:00:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 18% buyer’s fee.
