IONIA, Ephesus. Elagabalus. AD 218-222. Æ (36mm, 18.52 g, 6h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Frontal view of two distyle temples; the left having a statue of Artemis Ephesus; the right, a statue of Elagabalus; flanking, two tetrastyle temples seen in perspective with statues of uncertain deities within. RPC VI Online 4867; Karwiese 680; Kraft pl. 13, 27aa (same dies). Green patina, earthen deposits. Fine. Rare.

The reverse legend translates "By Decree of the Senate, these are the temples of the Ephesians," and refers to the fourth Neocory granted under Elagabalus. This obverse die was also used to strike coins for Tralles (Kraft pl. 13, 27b)
