The dukaton, also called the zilveren rijder (silver rider), was a high-value Dutch silver coin first struck in 1659. Through the trade network of the Dutch East India Company, this silver coin would come to be one of the most popular trade coins of the day, circulating alongside the ubiquitous Spanish-American silver coinage.
