Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ Sestertius (32mm, 22.31 g, 12h). “Travel series” issue (“Provinces cycle”) – Army/exercitus type. Rome mint. Struck circa AD 130-133. Bare head right / Hadrian standing right on low platform on left, raising right hand in gesture of address and holding volumen, haranguing three soldiers before him; the first soldier holding an aquila, the second a shield, and the third a vexillum. RIC II.3 1918 (R2); Banti 255 (same dies as illustration); SCBC 637 (same dies as illustration); CNG 102, lot 956 (same dies; hammer $4,750). Green-brown patina, some earthen highlights. Fine. Extremely rare, perhaps less than ten examples known.

SCBC (54th edition, 2019) lists a value of £6,500 in Fine.
