Various authors. Lot of two (2) rare titles on ancient oil lamps. (Ontario & Zurich, 1919-1977). Includes: (1) Ancient Lamps in the Royal Ontario Museum I: Greek and Roman Clay Lamps. J.W. Hayes, Author. (Royal Ontario Museum, 1977.) 226 pages, with text, photographs and line drawings illustrating more than 500 varieties of oil lamps. (2) Lampen Aus Vindonissa. Sigfried Loeschcke, author. (Zurich, 1919.) 533 pages, with text (in German), photographs and drawings depicting more than 1,000 Roman oil lamps, most of them found in the legionary fortress of Vindonissa, modern Windisch, Switzerland. An important reference work documenting the progression of oil lamp types in both ceramic and metal, in addition to other objects, including the mysterious “Roman dodekahedron” found at the site. Very Good condition, with some minor staining of the beige buckram cover. TWO BOOKS IN LOT. Fair condition, the first in Fine condition, the buckram cover lightly faded; the second Fair, with minor staining of the beige buckram cover. |
