Bareheaded, draped bust right / Amphilochos standing left, holding branch and parazonium(?); boar at his feet left.. SNG BN 1927 (same dies); SNG Levante –. Brown tone over lightly porous surfaces, reverse scrape. Fine. Rare.

Amphilochos, a mythical king of Argos, was one of Helen of Troy’s early suitors. After her abduction, he fought in the Trojan War and gained the reputation of a seer. He was credited with founding several oracles, including one which grew into city of Mallos.
