SICILY, Lilybaion (as ‘Cape of Melkart’). Circa 330-305 BC. AR Tetradrachm (22mm, 17.05 g, 3h). Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving fast quadriga left; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer; RŠMLQRT (“Raš Melqart” in Punic) in exergue / Head of Arethousa right, wearing wreath of grain ears, triple-pendant earring, and pearl necklace; three dolphins swimming around. Jenkins, Punic 70 (O24/R53); CNP 344; HGC 2, 743; SNG Lockett 745 (same dies); BMC 3 (same dies); Jameson 599 (same dies). Toned, compact flan. Good VF. Well centered.

From the Lampasas Collection, purchased from America Eagle Coins, Colorado Springs. Lot also includes an old Sotheby’s sale ticket, marked lot 288.
