ROME. 1st-3rd century AD. Lot of six (6) lead tesserae. Includes:

(12mm, 1.67 g, 12h) Fortuna standing left, holding rudder and cornucopia / DP. Rostowzew 2307.

Square shape. (14x13mm, 3.28 g, 12h) Victory advancing right, holding wreath and palm frond over shoulder / Wreath. Rostowzew 1913.1.

Hexagonal shape. (13x19mm, 3.11 g, 12h) Juno standing left, holding patera and long scepter / Victory advancing right, holding wreath and palm frond over shoulder. Rostowzew – .

Lot also includes three (3) uncertain lead issues. PAMPHYLIA, Side. 1st century BC. PB (15mm, 5.98 g, 5h). Helmeted head of Athena right / Pomegranate. Cf. SNG France 766 (for type in bronze). Possibly a test or off-metal strike.

ASIA MINOR, Uncertain. PB Tessera or Plaquette. Rectangular shape. (21x11mm, 4.69 g) Fish right / Blank. Unpublished in the standard references.

UNCERTAIN. PB Seal (12mm, 4.39 g, 3h). Bearded male head right (wearing bashlyk?) / Bee. Fine to VF.

Tesserae in the city of Rome were sometimes produced in unusual shapes. Circular pieces are the most common, but square, triangular, hexagonal, and more ornate shapes are also known.
