SICILY, Leontini. Circa 476-466 BC. AR Tetradrachm (25mm, 17.43 g, 9h). Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in left, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with open wreath held in both hands / Head of roaring lion right; Λ-EONT-I-NON and four barley grains around. Boehringer, Münzgeschichte 2/1 (for obv. die/rev. type); Randazzo 77 (same dies); HGC 2, 660; SNG ANS 201; SNG Lloyd 1043 var. (ethnic retrograde; same obv. die); Basel –; de Luynes 989 (same dies); Rizzo pl. XXII, 4 (same dies). Darkly toned. VF. Struck from a very early die state.
