Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. AV Aureus (20mm, 7.89 g, 5h). Uncertain Spanish mint (Colonia Patricia?). Struck circa 18 BC. CAESARI AVGVSTO, laureate head right / S • P • Q • R • above, slow quadriga left, currus ornamented with Victories on front and side, containing four miniature horses and aquila. RIC I 112; Calicó 282 (same dies as illustration); BMCRE –;BMCRR Rome –; BN p. 177, note *; Biaggi 137 (same dies). Scratch and traces of die rust on obverse, area of weak strike on reverse. VF. Very rare, only one example in CoinArchives.

This issue was one of many that were struck to commemorate the recovery by Augustus of the standards lost by Crassus to the Parthians.
