A later comment in this sale (on RRC 315/1 L.H.TVB uncia) speculates on the mystery of the continued production of unciae in very low volumes at a time when the minimum regular coin in circulation was a quadrans or sextans. In my view, an understanding of the role of these ultra small change coins may unlock some of the mysteries around coin issuance and usage in ancient Rome. [Andrew McCabe]
