Laureate and draped bust right / [AD]VENTVI AVG BITHYNIAE, Hadrian, togate, standing right, raising right hand and holding volumen; to right, Bithynia standing left, wearing a crown of towers, holding rudder upright and sacrificing out of patera over lighted and garlanded altar between them; sacrificial bull between altar and Bithynia. RIC II.3 1740; Banti 21. Brown patina, roughness. Good Fine. Rare.

Hadrian traveled to eighteen provinces of the Roman Empire. This coin is an example struck to commemorate his arrival in the province of Bithynia.
