THESSALY, Pherai. Late 4th century BC. AR Hemiobol (7mm, 0.32 g, 1h). Head of Ennodia right / Φ-E, hunting dog sitting right. BCD Thessaly II 694; HGC 4, 563. Some porosity. Near VF. Very rare.

From the BCD Collection.

According to the myth, Pan gave Artemis her dogs: two black and white, three reddish and one spotted. She also got from him seven bitches, bringing the total to thirteen, quite a following of faithful companions. For a “close up” of one of her dogs see BCD Thessaly I, 1318, as well as BCD Thessaly II 693, but the pointed muzzle of the dog pictured here indicates that this one is of a different breed.

Closing Date and Time: 18 December 2019 at 10:15:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 18% buyer’s fee.
