ARGOLIS, Argos. Circa 90-40 BC. AR Triobol (17mm, 2.34 g, 3h). Hieron, magistrate. Forepart of wolf at bay to left / Large A; below, eagle standing right; all within incuse square. BCD Peloponnesos 1177 (this coin); HGC 5, 692. Deeply toned, struck with somewhat worn obverse die. EF. Well centered and struck.

From the Thomas Palmer Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Group inventory 773998 (July 2006); BCD Collection (LHS 96, 8 May 2006), lot 1177; Spink 32 (30 November 1983), lot 48.

From the BCD catalog: It is possible that the issues of this series with the standing eagle symbol, which all appear to have been struck in haste, are actually issues of Cleopatra VII from the 30s BC. Until further evidence is brought to light, though, such an attribution remains uncertain.

Closing Date and Time: 3 June 2026 at 11:20:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
