MACEDON, Republican period. First Meris. Circa 174/3-2nd half of 2nd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (30mm, 15.28 g, 9h). Amphipolis mint. Struck circa 174/3-158 BC. Diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver over shoulder, in the center of a Macedonian shield / Club; monogram above, N below; all within oak wreath, thunderbolt to left. Prokopov, Silver, Group I.A, – (O–/R–, both dies unrecorded); HGC 3, 1103. Iridescent toning, light scratches. Near VF.

The broad, triple-layered curls in Artemis’ hair is a typical feature in group II.A but is not found in group I.A. The reverse monogram combination is only found in group I.A. This may be a hybrid of the two types.
