EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Philip II of Macedon. 2nd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 14.24 g, 1h). Mint in the lower Danube region. Celticized head of Zeus right; behind, oval shield / Nude youth, holding palm, on horseback right; below, Λ; to lower right, Λ. OTA 14/3 var. (no shield, controls); Lanz 353 var. (same); KMW –; CCCBM I 2 var. (no shield, with torch). Roughness, trace deposits. VF. Rare.

Each of the references cited have a horizontal shield and crescent types recorded behind Zeus’ head on the obverse, although not described. The vertical oval shield is not found in the plates in any of these references.
