Caracalla. AD 198-217. AR Denarius (19mm, 2.89 g, 12h). Laodicea ad Mare mint. Struck AD 200-201. ANTONINVS AVGVSTVS, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust seen from front; cuirass decorated with gorgoneion / SEVERI PII AVG FIL, Caracalla standing left, holding Victory on globe and inverted spear; to left, captive seated left, resting head on hand. RIC IV –; BMCRE –; RSC –. Handsome cabinet toning with hints of gold and blue. Good VF. Very rare type not recorded for Caracalla at Laodicea, paired with an exceptional bust type.
