Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. AR Denarius (18mm, 2.82 g, 6h). ‘Old style’. Laodicea ad Mare mint. Struck AD 196-197. L SEPT SEV P[E RT AVG I]MP VIII, laureate head right / [V]I CTO R AVG, Victory standing right, foot on globe, inscribing shield set on knee. Cf. RIC IV 486; cf. BMCRE p. 113, †; cf. RSC 704 (all for Victory left). Toned, roughness and minor deposits on reverse. Fine. Extremely rare – apparently unrecorded with Victory right, though RIC and BMCRE both cite Cohen and note that the description is incomplete .
