GERMANY(?). 18th century. Cast Brass Medal (59mm, 46.50 g, 12h). Esoteric astrological type. Uncertain maker. ПANTТΩN TO KAAI (quasi Greek for the fairest of all), personification of the planet Venus standing facing slightly right, star above head, holding arrow and golden apple; planetary symbol of Venus to left; behind, bull couchant right with head facing; radiant sun above (sun in Taurus); crossed rose branches below / TV SVPERIS DIVVM GRATA ET IMIS (you are the favored deity of the [worlds] above and below), personification of the constellation Virgo, winged and with stars, standing facing slightly left, holding branch and caduceus; zodiacal symbol of Virgo to left; crossed rose branches below. Cf. BM Inv. G3,FD.415 (for another medal of astrological type). Reddish-brown patina, with brass highlights, holed for suspension. Good VF. An interesting item of esoterica.
