MACEDON (Roman Protectorate), Republican period. First Meris. Late 2nd-1st centuries BC. AR Tetradrachm (34mm, 15.65 g, 4h). Contemporary imitation of Amphipolis mint issue. Diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver over shoulder, in the center of a Macedonian shield / Club; NAK monogram and MAKEΔONΩN above, ΠPΩTHΣ and HP monogram below; all within oak wreath, thunderbolt to left. Prokopov, Silver 748-IM. 3 (O2/R3); D. MacDonald, “Imitations of Macedonia First Meris Tetradrachms over Myrina” in NK 16 (1997), 1 (same dies); cf. HGC 3, 1103 (for prototype). Faint golden toning, slight doubling on obverse. EF.
