POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (95 mm wide x 90 mm tall). A Gnathian pot with large body, wide shoulders and two handles at either side. The foot of the piece flares wider than the squat stem holding up the vessel. The oval body tapers abruptly at the shoulders and a neck extends from there to flare at the top. From the back of the neck, a third handle extends to reattach mid-body. On the upper register of the body, a vine pattern encircles the forepart of the piece. Minor wear at points, especially the lip and foot. 2 tags present on the bottom of the foot, probably old collection tags noting the number of the piece. Some minor losses of glaze but intact. |
