APPLIQUE. Scythian (Eastern Greek Colonies) c. 600-400 BCE. (25 mm x 27 mm). An applique in embossed gold sheet of a griffon, advancing left on hind slightly. His head is forward, as are his front two talons as they wrap the border surrounding him. His wings are only partially extended but opened. Similar to example found in Dniepropoltovsk Axos.
