ATTICA, Athens. Circa 454-404 BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 17.17 g, 4h). Helmeted head of Athena right / Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent behind; all within incuse square. Kroll 8; HGC 4, 1597. Lustrous. EF. Well centered and struck.

From the Style Collection.

Here we see a depiction of Athena that harkens back to more archaic conventions, with a more elongated face and a pronounced frontal almond-shaped eye.

“I liked this coin because of the obverse centering. The crest is so close to being full.” (From the consignor)
