CILICIA, Seleucia ad Calycadnum. Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ (23mm, 5.43 g, 5h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from the front; c/m: circle within Δ incuse / Bust of Athena left, wearing high-crested Corinthian helmet and aegis; spear forward at right shoulder. RPC VII.2 2928; SNG BN –; SNG Levante Supp. 210. For c/m: Howgego 670. Light brown patina with earthen highlights, some roughness, reverse slightly off center. Near VF. Very rare, only four known to RPC. |
