SAMARIA. Jeroboam. Circa 375-333 BC. AR Obol (8mm, 0.58 g). Female head right / Two standing male figures, the left a youth holding branch, the right older, bearded and draped, holding uncertain object (pomegranate?). Meshorer & Qedar 44. Near VF, crude strike.

Meshorer has suggested that Jeroboam (YRB’M) might be the Samarian name of Manassas, a Jerusalemite who married Nikaso, the daughter of Sanballat, and became the Samarian High Priest. Although a very tentative theory, if correct it is possible that the female head on this coin represents Nikaso and the two male figures Sanballat and Jeroboam.
