VESPASIAN. 69-79 AD. Denarius (18mm, 3.38 g, 6h). Countermarked circa 74-79 AD, probably at Ephesus. A Denarius of M. Sergius Silus, 116-115 BC: helmeted head of Roma right; X behind; c/m: IMP •VES in incuse rectangle (letters retrograde and ligate) / Horseman on rearing horse left, holding sword and head of barbarian. For coin: Crawford 286/1; Sydenham 534; Sergia 1. For c/m: cf. Howgego 839 (normal orientation of letters). Fine, toned, traces of porosity.
