LUCIUS VERUS. 161-169 AD. Æ As (27mm, 10.11 gm). Struck 164 AD. Bare head right / Armenian in mourning, seated amidst arms, vexillum and trophy behind. RIC III 1364 (Aurelius); BMCRE 1135 (Aurelius); Cohen 9. Near VF, brown patina, some light roughness.

In 161 AD Vologases IV of Parthia attacked Armenia and installed his chief general on its throne. To counter the Parthian threat Verus set out for the east in 162 AD. His army won significant victories and retook the capital. Sohaemus, a Roman citizen of Armenian heritage, was installed as the new client king.
