SCOTLAND. Alexander III. 1249-1286. AR Penny (18mm, 1.39 gm). First coinage, circa 1250-1280. Berwick mint, moneyer Iohan. Type VII or VIII. Crowned head left, holding sceptre before / IOHAN ON BER, voided long cross with four six-pointed mullets. Burns 15 (fig. 91); SCBC 5047-5048. Good Fine, rough.

The bust type more nearly resembles that on Type III pennies, but the distinction is not clear enough to declare this piece a hybrid. No Type III pennies are known for Iohan.
