KINGS of MACEDON. temp. Philip III – Lysimachos. Circa 323-280 BC. AR Drachm (17mm, 4.22 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III. Uncertain mint in western Asia Minor. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; no control marks. Price 2727. Toned, overstruck on uncertain type. EF.

From the Matthew Curtis Collection.

Price 2727 seems to be a catch-all for drachms lacking control marks that are not yet linked to a particular mint by an obverse die link or style. All four of the coins referenced by Price exhibit widely varying styles, such that they probably are not issues from a single mint. The style of the present coin is more similar to early 3rd century issues from mints in southern Ionia or Caria.
