The Pompeians. Q. Caecilius Metellus Pius Scipio and P. Licinius Crassus Junianus. 47- Spring 46 BC. AR Denarius (17.5mm, 3.40 g, 9h). Utica mint. Head of city-goddess of Utica right, wearing mural crown; stalk of grain to left, winged caduceus to right; uncertain object (apluster[?]) above; rostrum below / Military trophy, composed of Spanish arms, consisting of cuirass with sword attached at the waist, helmet, bow and quiver, and round shield; lituus to left, capis to right. Crawford 460/3; CRI 42; Sydenham 1049; Caecilia 52; RBW 1603. Near Fine, toned, light scratches and marks, a few bankers’ marks. Very rare.
