BITHYNIA, Kios. Circa 345-315 BC. AR Siglos or Drachm (19mm, 5.10 g, 7h). Persic standard. Philinos, magistrate. Laureate head of Apollo right / Prow of galley left; ΦIΛI/NOΣ above and below. RG 2 var. (unlisted magistrate); HGC 7, 552 var. (same); Künker 295, lot 282. VF, lightly toned, rough surfaces. Extremely rare with this magistrate.


This magistrate is not recorded for this issue in most references, however, he is known on a quarter siglos/drachm of this issue that is (or was?) in the Ashmolean (cf. G. Le Rider, Deux trésors des monnaies de la Propontide (IVe siècle avant J.-C.) [Paris, 1963], p. 36, n. 5 = J. G. Milne, “Notes on the Oxford Collection” in NC 1935, p. 195 [but not published in the recent SNG Ashmolean]).
