Vitellius. AD 69. AV Aureus (18mm, 7.31 g, 6h). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. Struck circa March-July. [A V]ITELLIVS GER IMP AVG P MAX TR P, laureate head right, [globe at point of neck] / VESTA P R QVIRITIVM, Vesta, veiled, draped, seated left on throne, holding patera in right hand and torch in left. Cf. RIC I 65 (Denarius); cf. Lyon 13 (Denarius); Calicó 575a (same coin as illustration); cf. BMCRE 123 (Denarius); BN –; Biaggi –. Near EF, underlying luster, a couple of small scratches, irregular flan, as made. Very rare.
